Cozad Native Publishes Suspense Novella Set in Cozad Area

By
Liz Romero

Steve Pearson, a 1966 graduate of Cozad High School, has co-authored a crime and suspense novella set in the Cozad area during the 1980s.
The book, titled Sundown, was published April 1, through Kindle Direct Publishing. It is available in both paperback and eBook formats on Amazon here https://a.co/d/01fHG4z9.
Pearson, whose parents were Kermit and Opal Pearson, grew up in Cozad and remains connected to the community through family and memories. His siblings include Gary Pearson of North Platte, Kip Pearson of San Anselmo, CA; Karen Fahrenbruch of McCook and Kay Hall of Conifer, CO. His cousin, Phyllis Stevenson, is a beloved Cozad resident.
After graduating high school, Pearson attended Wayne State College in Wayne. He later served in the United States Army from 1972 to 1975. Following his service, he moved to Missouri, completed graduate work at the University of Missouri, and spent his career working in the health care field until his retirement in 2012.
He said his time growing up in Cozad helped shape both his life and his writing. Among his favorite memories are fishing at Midway Lake, hunting pheasants north of town and playing football for the Haymakers. Pearson plans to return to Cozad in early September for HayDays for his class reunion.
Pearson and his wife, Jeanie (Salisbury) of Lexington, have been married for 56 years. They have two children, Nick Pearson of St. Joseph, MO, and Jennifer Bechtel of Hickory, NC, along with one grandchild.
Sundown is a story of suspense, crime, love, and redemption. It is co-authored by William Birkby.
