Edeal Leads Haymakers Back to State

The Haymakers secured their trip to the Class C State Boys Golf Tournament with a runner-up finish Monday at the C-5 District Tournament at Crandall Creek Golf Course in Ogallala. Cozad posted a team score of 333 to finish second and punch its ticket to state. 

Harrison Edeal led the Haymakers with a fifth-place individual finish, shooting rounds of 40 and 38 for a scorecard of 78. Edeal’s strong day helped anchor a balanced Cozad lineup against a competitive 15-school field. 

Ethan Atchison followed with an 82, Owen Ross added an 84, and Daygn Buss finished with an 89 to round out the Haymakers’ scoring. Chandler Kaup also competed for Cozad. 

Now, this year’s Haymakers will try to continue that legacy at the Class C State Tournament, set for Wednesday and Thursday at Indianhead Golf Course in Grand Island. 

Cozad’s Day 1 tee times are set, with Atchison opening play at 9 a.m. on Hole No. 10. Ross follows at 9:30 a.m., Buss tees off at 10:10 a.m., and Edeal begins his round at 10:20 a.m. on Hole No. 1. Kaup rounds out the lineup with a 10:50 a.m. start on Hole No. 10. 

The Haymakers also carry plenty of golf tradition into state competition. Cozad is tied for fifth all-time in NSAA history with five individual state champions, highlighted by back-to-back Class B titles from Greg Davis and Mike Hecox. Davis’ 68 at the 2002 state tournament remains one of the top rounds in state history. 

The Haymakers enter state after showing consistency throughout districts and will look to carry that momentum into Grand Island this week.
